We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when the fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it...

Michael William Egan was shot and killed by Vincent Stemle on December 23rd, 2004, in downtown Portland, Oregon. On August 5th, 2005, Vincent Stemle was convicted of Manslaughter One but for insanity in the death of Michael Egan, and sentenced to the Oregon State Mental Hospital in Salem, for a period of time not to exceed 20 years. On December 12th, a day before he was scheduled to go before the Psychiatric Review Board (essentially a parole hearing) Stemle suffered a massive heart attack. On January 12th he died. Both the Portland Police Bureau and the Multnomah County District Attorney's office have treated my family with a tremendous amount of professionalism and compassion. We are grateful for their service.

The 10th anniversary of Michael's death is approaching, and I plan to update this site as much as possible by then.
